Base: Fenty Pro Fil’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation As you know, I was invited to preview the Fenty collection on the opening day at Harvey Nichols. My first impressions of the primer and foundation were really good – it lasted the whole day even surviving a soft play session with the kids. Because of it’s name (“Soft Matte”) it definitely wouldn’t have been something I’d have picked out for myself but I was kindly sent this and as I didn’t have any other foundations that actually matched me I’ve been wearing it a lot.
And guess what? I’m really loving it. They key to getting this foudation to look good on my skin is in the application. It can look powdery and flat if you wear too much. I tried applying it with a damp beauty blender but it works best buffed in with a damp/spritzed Real Techniques Expert Face Brush in a light layer and then add a little bit more on my cheeks where I have redness. It’s more coverage than I’m used to but I’ve shied away from higher coverage foundations based on the fact they usually settle into fine lines – which this one doesn’t. The main selling point of this for me though, is the longevity. It seriously stays in place the entire day. I don’t wear foundation every day so when I do I want it to give me a great complexion and last all day – so it’s everything I could ask for.
Highlight: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in Moonstone. An old fave that I’ve dug back out after mainly using my liquid version over the summer. Such a beautiful highlight and I really recommend anyone to invest in this if they are thinking of making a luxury makeup purchase.
Contour: I don’t normally bother with a contour but I’m really enjoying the Fenty Skin Stick in Amber which is a cool toned taupey colour. I bought this one with my own money after having a makeover at the Fenty counter and loved the way it looked on me. It’s really nice for a little bit of added definition and so easy to use. It’s a cream to powder formula so as with the foundation, it really stays put. Works as an eyeshadow too if you just want a smudgy bit of natural shadow.
Mascara: Pixi Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Blue A true holy grail product that I’d never be without. In navy blue, of course.
Lips: I’m a big fan of the NYX liquid lipsticks. They’re easy to get hold of, affordable, comfortable to wear and the colours are great. My current go-to bright lip is Prague Soft Matte Lip Cream which is a violet toned pink. If I’m feeling a bit haggard then a bright lip is always my fail safe to take the attention away from my saggy eyes. Also loving the Lip Lingerie in French Maid which is a very nineties mauvey brown. Shout out too for Kat Von D’s Bow N Arrow.
Brows: There has been a lot of trial and error in the brow product department for me over the last few months but my favourite at the moment is the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Taupe. I’ve tried higher end pencils that are fine but honestly this does as good a job and can be picked up in Boots for under a tenner so it’s a winner.
Eye Shadow Palette: Now I know why no one has stopped raving about this palette since it was launched last year. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette is everything you could ever want for pulling off warm toned Autumnal eye looks from natural to all the way to seriously bold. My lips have (right on cue) completely dried up as they always do at this time of year so I’m wearing eyeshadow a bit more if my lips are too dry to wear a bright lippie. Nothing else is getting a look-in since this arrived.
*There is an eyeliner in the shot that I’m unsure of the cruelty-free status so I’ve chosen not to discuss until I can be sure. I photographed it, then had doubts so checked online and now I’m unsure.
