As summer is at it’s peak (peaked?) I thought now would be a good time to go through what I’ve been sticking (or not sticking) on my face recently.
It’s been a while since I had one but this year I have acquired a pretty nice natural tan. As well as Glastonbury and five days in Croatia, I’ve been clocking up as many odd hours outside as I can. As we’ve been pretty blessed withj sunshine this year, I’ve ended up with a nice sunkissed glow. I’ve been slapping either the Ultrasun Face SPF30 (not pictured as now run out) or the Emma Hardie Protect and Prime SPF30 onto my face everyday. To be honest I think an SPF50 would be better as I’ve noticed some hyperpigmentation on my top lip, so I think I’m going to pick up the Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF 50 as facial sun damage is top of my skincare priorities these days!
About once a week I’ve been adding 3 drops of the Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster to my evening moisturiser. I probably have a life time supply of this as I’ve had it over a year now and it still looks full. Sadly, as Clarins sells in China I can’t repurchase so I’m searching for a cruelty free dupe. The closest I can find would be a facial gradual tanner such as the Elemis Total Glow Bronzing Moisturiser For Face 🙁
Right now none of my foundations match but the thought of putting a foundation all over my face in this heat is pretty unappealing anyway. Instead I’ve just been using my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in my summer shade of Light 2 – Cannelle under my eyes, a little around my nose and to cover the top lip darkness that’s appeared. Blended with fingers or a beauty blender.
For the first time ever, I’ve actually been using a bronzer. I picked up the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil and I love the effect of that swept over my cheeks and forehead and then a dab of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Champagne Pop on the top of my cheekbones. On holiday I was using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amythyst for something a bit extra.
The overall effect is an enhanced version of glowy, naturally tanned skin. I think tans can be ageing so this minimal approach also keeps the overall look as youthful as possible.
As with foundation, I’ve not really felt like wearing anything much at all on the eyes in this hot weather. A swipe of MAC Pro Longwear Paintpot in Layin’ Low (anyone have any cruelty free dupes for this?) and a little smudged MAC eyeliner in Groundbreaker are all I’ve been wearing on a day to day basis. I’ve even been forgoing mascara most days.
For brows I’ve been trying my best to grow those babies out as much as I can. I’ve not had them threaded in months, instead just trimming and tinting them at home myself with the Colorsport 30 Day Brow Tint. A little clear brow gel to brush the hairs upwards (not pictured because, gross) to make them look thicker and the tiniest bit of NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Ash Brown just to define the arch. I’m really over the whole HD Brows look now and just want mine to look natural and groomed.
Lips are where I’ve really been creating all the drama. I love how a bright lip looks against tanned skin and can completely carry a very minimal makeup look. One of my favourites for day to day is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes. It’s an earthy pink with the slightest hint of terracotta in the background and on my skintone is somewhere between a nude and a bright. For something a bit extra I love a hot barbie pink. I’ve dug out a very old lipstick called Hollywood Nights by MAC. Seriously past it’s use by date but honestly I don’t think it has a bad smell so it’s been going on my lips nevertheless.
And that’s it. Glowy skin, barely anything on the eyes and a punchy lip.
